Adding users to Blackboard courses

Students registered in your daytime courses are automatically enrolled in the appropriate Blackboard courses. 

  1. You can add any user who is already in the Blackboard database to your course as a student by using Add User from the Control Panel.  To add users with other roles (instructors, course builder, etc.) contact bbhelp@algonquincollege.com
  2. To add other users to Blackboard courses, such as CE students, colleagues, support staff members or dummy students, read this information:

Information Required to Load Users Manually into Blackboard

Teachers or Departments may wish to ask bbhelp to load users manually into Blackboard. Examples of this would be

  • A Continuing Education teacher wishes to enroll CE students in a Blackboard course
  • A teacher wishes to have colleagues enrolled as students/instructors in a course
  • A department wishes to have a support staff member enrolled as a course builder (who can add content, such as course outlines, to a course)
  • A teacher wishes to have a student persona to be able to participate in the course as a student.

For bbhelp to carry out your request, we need the following information:

  1. the specific semester_course_section number (for each entry)
  2. the username of the student(s)/teacher(s) to be enrolled
  3. the role the user is to play in the course
    • student
    • instructor
    • course builder (access to content only)
    • marker (access to grading only)

Notes:

  1. For CE Courses bbhelp will request a student list in the appropriate format from ITS.  We need to know the course and section number only.
  2. To load teachers or support-staff members into a whole series of courses, we need a request from the Dean, and a listing of the course sections in the appropriate format (see below).

The information needs to be in the following format for it to be loaded into Blackboard:

Format

Semester, course and section number are identified, separated by underscores, and for the usernames of the students/instructors be included, following a comma, and with no spaces, as in the following example:

02F_CRS1234_010,user1
02F_CRS1234_010,user2
02F_CRS1234_020,user1
02F_CRS1234_030,user1
etc.

A file in this format can be conveniently saved as a Comma Separated Values (.csv) file out of Excel or as a txt file out of Word or WordPerfect.
