Please use Internet Explorer 5.0 or later to view this page.  This presentation assumes that you have Word 2000 and PowerPoint 2000 installed on your computer.

How to

New Sound Cards in the College

     

Amplifiers in the eclassrooms

Sources of sounds:

  • Windows itself

    •  Media subfolder

    • Office Clip Art

  • Tapes and CDs (copyright!!!)

Record your own

  • Sound card and microphone required
  • Open sound recorder in Windows (Accessories--Entertainment)

  • Use Edit--> Audio Properties--> Sound Recording to adjust

Applications

  • Word
    voice comments in marking
  • PowerPoint
    voice over with slides
  • Blackboard
    • Word and PowerPoint work fine
    • HTML pages with sounds don't work -- since BB does not detect that it needs to link to the sound file.
  • Web Pages
    sound that plays when
    • button is clicked
    • page loads

Button click:

The link <a href="example.wav">example</a> will play the example.wav sound file (created in Windows) when you click on the word example, as shown here: example.

Background Sound
This only works with Internet Explorer!

    Utility programs:

    Goldwave -- record sounds, edit and convert between different formats. -- http://www.goldwave.com/

   

Size of files

1 minute of audio 8 bit Mono -- 1393 KB!
1 minute of audio 16 bit Stereo -- 10,393 KB!
