Use of Student Technology Assistants (STARs)
Tasks for STARs
recommended by
Noni Stukel and
Nick Strachan, who have used
STARs to support their online delivery.
- Answer student email messages of an
administrative nature (i.e. I can't find Blackboard or My password
doesn't work etc.)
- Forward (to me) student email messages of an
academic nature (i.e. How do you format a business letter? What's the rule
for using a semicolon?)
- Send routine email messages (i.e. reminding
students that assignments are due, asking students why they have not been
attending class, etc.)
- Post, alter and/or delete grades and
assignments on/from Blackboard
-
Create a pool of quiz questions, and develop
quizzes bases on my question list and post them for several course sections.
-
Copy over external links from one course to
another and create/post the brief description of the links.
-
Assist in PowerPoint by creating a template
standard for a course and implementing throughout my lecture slides, help
develop slide shows that incorporate direct links to print and broadcast
media examples.
-
Assist in the development on departmental
PowerPoint slide shows to be used at open houses etc. (example was a
graduation show)
-
Post course info. that is received though
college communications, such as exam schedules etc.
-
post meeting minutes, communicate announcements,
load up competition data and associated links for our OCMC (Ontario Colleges
Marketing Competition) organization site.
Notes from an online
discussion from TLT Group on the use of STARs.
