4Best Practices

  • The Virtual-U Research Project was developed in 1994, and funded beginning in 1995, as part of the Canadian TeleLearning Network of Centres of Excellence. The project brings together specialists from the learning sciences, social sciences, and computing and engineering sciences to develop research-based design of e-learning models, pedagogies, and environments (Dr. Linda Harasim, Simon Fraser University).
  • Technology in Learning - Proposed Set of Guiding Principles: There is a critical need to articulate the fundamental guiding principles that drive decisions and policymaking with respect to technology in learning. These guiding principles, guided planning at ContactNorth and served the Network well over the past number of years and may have merit for others.
  • Seven Principles of Effective Teaching: A Practical Lens for Evaluating Online Courses - A list of "lessons learned" for online instruction that correspond to the original "Seven Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education" popularly used in face-to-face instruction (West Valley College).
  • Best Educational E-Practices (BEEP):  A compilation that features articles by various educators on best practices in distance learning (St. Petersburg Junior College).
  • The Effective Practices and Solutions (EPS) database at EDUCAUSE is a dynamically searchable repository of IT practices and solutions that are in place and working on campuses throughout the world.
  • From E-Learning Failure to E-Learning Redemption: Common sense suggestions and methodology for recovering poorly designed online courses (Ed Mayberry).
  • Preparing Students for Elearning: A collage of thoughts from seven educators (George Siemens).
  • Innovations in Online Learning: Moving Beyond No Significant Difference - It’s not about providing student services online; it’s how you provide student services online (The Pew Learning and Technology Program).
