LEVEL 8 ACADEMIC 

READING  (ESL 5961 & ESL 0019)

Course Requirements

In the reading component of the Level 8 International program, there will be four (4) hours of class in the classroom and one (1) hour of class in the Multimedia Lab (B453) each week. A number of assignments and tests will make up the mark for this course.

1) READING QUIZZES

* to take place in weeks 4 and 7

Evaluation: 55% of the total course mark

 

2) VOCABULARY QUIZZES

* to be given at the end of specified sections of the vocabulary part of the course

Evaluation: 20% of the total course mark

 

3) OUTLINE OF A READING ARTICLE

* to be explained in class

Evaluation: 10% of the total class mark

 

4) PORTFOLIO/VOCABULARY ASSIGNMENT

Purpose: * to increase your active vocabulary in your present/future field of study

Process: * to be explained in class

Evaluation: 10% of the total class mark

* you will be evaluated on the completeness of your assignments

* you will be tested on these words during the course

 

5) READING ASSIGNMENTS

* to be explained in class and with handouts

* to be completed in the Multimedia Lab

Evaluation: 5% of the total class mark
