USING COMMAS TO SURROUND SPECIAL PHRASES

Phrases beginning with special expressions such as the following are surrounded by commas:

  • along with
  • together with
  • as well as
  • such as                                           
  • accompanied by
  • in addition to
  • aided by
  • including

Examples

The mayor, as well as all of the council members,  will attend the ceremony.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by her aides,  will arrive in Ottawa tomorrow.
