A1 – Access Lab Project 1
Important Note: This,
like all Access Labs, is an individual assignment.
The College values honesty as a key principle in the College environment and in
the workplace. Academic work submitted by a student is evaluated on the assumption
that the work presented by the student is his or her own, unless designated
otherwise. The College considers
Plagiarism, (presenting someone else’s work, in whole or in part, as your own),
and the facilitation of plagiarism, (one student sharing work with other
students), to be unacceptable and will impose sanctions, which may be - a
requirement that the student complete a course on academic integrity, a
requirement that the student submit additional work, a grade of zero for the
assignment, a grade of F for the course or suspension from the College. A
record will also be kept in the student's file. For full detail, see
Before attempting this assignment, you need to download the data files from the web. Click here Essentials Access 2003 Level 1 and save the file to your N drive. Then double click the file to expand it and make the individual data files available.
If you have trouble with the above, or any part of this Lab, be sure to post questions in the Discussion Board, or click ‘Staff Info’ to see how to get help from your Prof. Submitting the assignment with a note that says, ‘I couldn’t do this properly’ will disappoint both you and your Prof! He wants to help!
First, review the material in the text Projects 1, 2 and 3. Much of this should be familiar to you from your SAM work on Access last semester. The best way to review is to:
- look over the ‘Key terms’ list at the end of each Project, and look up the meaning of any terms that are unfamiliar
- do the ‘Screen id’ exercise on page 39
- run through each of the Skill Drills at the end of each Project. If any steps are unfamiliar, go back to the section of the Project that ‘walks you through’ that task.
Next, do steps 1,
and 2 of the Challenge Exercise for Project 1 (p 44ff) exactly as per the text,
except that you do not need to print
at step 1.8, your destination at step 2.3 should be
Next, do steps 1, and 2 of the Challenge Exercise for Project 2 (p 86ff) exactly as per the text, except that at step 2.3 you do not need to print, and the Form Name at step 2.3 should be Fort Fun Managers by XXXXX where XXXXX is your last name.
Finally, do steps 1 & 2 of the Challenge Exercise for Project 3 (p 129 ff) exactly as per the text, except that at step 2.3 you do not need to print; in step 5, you should change ‘Laura Rene Carr’ to your own names (first, middle and last), and do not delete the record; and in step 6 do not clear the filter, and do save changes when you close the table.
When your work is complete, submit the 3 databases from the Challenge exercises like this:
- logon to your own section of MGT2338 on Bb (not the combined section site)
- click the Assignments button
-
click
View/Complete Assignment: A1
- type comments (whatever you like)
- click Browse button, and upload first database (Aggie_Travel) - do not press ‘Submit’
- press the ‘Add another file’ button, click Browse button, and upload second database (Fort_Fun) - do not press ‘Submit’
-
press the ‘Add another file’ button, click
Browse button, and upload third database (Fort_Fun_Main)
-
click Submit

Note: Although the above is the only ‘hand-in’ required for these Projects, it is still important to work through all Skill Drills at the end of each Project (as requested above). Test questions will not be limited to the ‘hand-ins’!
