Instructions for Scavenger Hunt

  1. Sign up
    1. Go to the Scavenger Hunt Signup Forum in the Discussion Board, and choose the project you would like to work on. Your decision should be based on your interests, not on finding an the ‘easiest’ project – they are all approximately the same level of challenge. If one looks easier, you may be misunderstanding the requirements. Feel free to ask your prof for clarification before you decide.
    2. When you have chosen, open the thread for that project, and use the Reply button to post your name and contact information (so your team mates can get in touch with you). Note that team size is 3 minimum 5 maximum. If your first choice of project already has a full team, you will need to choose another.
    3. Any student who has not signed up by the deadline (see Weekly Planner) will be assigned to a team by your professor.
  2. Initial Research
    1. Use a combination of research on the Web and (at least one) visit to an actual site (store, office etc.) to collect information relevant to your topic.
    2. Go to the Scavenger Hunt Research Forum in the Discussion Board, open the thread for your project, and use the Reply button to post your contribution to your team’s research. Each member must post at least one reasonable contribution in order to qualify for a share in the team’s mark. You may post more than one contribution if you wish.
    3. All posts must be made before the deadline (see Weekly Planner).
  3. Final Report
    1. Prepare the final report, combining and summarizing the research posted in the previous step. Report does not need to be long (500 words should be plenty), but must answer all questions. It is also essential that report gives specifics – eg if an answer is ‘too expensive’, tell us how much it cost; if you say, ‘fingerprint data may be misused’, tell us how.
    2. Go to the Scavenger Hunt Report Forum, open the thread for your project, and use the Reply button to post your team’s final report (one post only). Only this final report will be marked.
    3. Remember the importance of correct attribution.
    4. Also, remember that spelling and grammar do affect comprehension (and your mark!). Incerrek spulling and gramma offen make riting un-understand-ible! The spell checker will help (there is one in Bb – use it!), but remember that it is not prefect! You will still need to proof read you work!
    5. Post must be made before the deadline (see Weekly Planner).
  4. Classmate Questions
    1. Each student is expected to read all final reports, and must post one relevant question (using the reply button) to the project of your choice (other than your own)
    2. Post must be made before the deadline (see Weekly Planner).
  5. Team Answers
    1. Each team member must post a reasonable answer to at least one question asked of your team
    2. All posts must be made before the deadline (see Weekly Planner).
