The C.Y.W. advisory committee is composed of 10-15 external stakeholders from diversified settings ex. residential, school, community based and from diversified backgrounds ex. C.Y.W. social work, education, psychology. These persons provide the program with both an ongoing sense of what is desired in a graduate and advise on various program initiatives. The Committee meets a minimum of once each semester. In the past few years, advisory committees have applauded the programs efforts to carefully screen applicants with language tests, The first year volunteer placement further assures advisory committees that second and third year official placements will be filled by students who possess a high degree of readiness. Other program initiatives endorsed by advisory committees have included: a yearly mandate to seek out a minimum of 8 to 10 new field placements, the lobbying by faculty for new C.Y.W. classifications in school boards and the push to bring an ongoing professional identity to the field of Child and Youth Work. Recently, the committee has addressed a number of important areas: expanding career opportunities for graduates, multicultural content in curriculum, CSAC, application process, community award, criminal records check, general and generic education inclusion in the program, apprenticeship programs, equity representation on advisory committee and professionalism in the field. The program appreciates the advisory committee as an invaluable tool to maximize the overall employability of graduates.
