EVALUATION
There are five main areas of assessment for the Speaking course, as follows:
| Midterm Exam (covering lecture series and handbook) | 25% | |
| Formal Speech (10-15 minutes in duration, TBA) | 25% | |
| Class Participation (decided by all the students) | 25% | |
| Attendance (decided by the professor) | 15% | |
| Outline and Trigger Sheets (submitted before speech) | 10% | |
| TOTAL | 100% |
Following the three-to-four introductory weeks of the Speaking course, including the initial eight lectures and midterm exam, the course becomes almost entirely learner-centred. Perhaps the best evidence of this fact is reflected by the evaluation system whereby the entire class evaluates and calculates all the speeches and continuously evaluates the participation of every other student. And, since a speech and participation comprise a significant part of the final grade, the students of the Speaking course have a major say in final results. (Note that all individual, written evaluations handed in by students are kept confidential.)
Of course, I will be discussing and explaining everything for you in class. So, save any questions you may have until then.
