Managing Experiential Learning Environments: Clinical Settings, Workplace Environments and Simulations
Most of our college students engage in learning experiences in authentic settings, particularly learning experiences that take place in the lab, on work placement, or in a clinical setting. Algonquin College is a leader, in fact, in the use of simulated authentic workplace settings; note that some of our professors will be publishing in this area soon!
David Kolb on Experiential Learning is a good place to begin as he is an early leader in the field. This article, enhanced by a number of graphics, is very readable.

Algonquin College is a Leader Using Simulation in Teaching
Our new sim lab in the School of Health and Community Studies has been profiled in both external and internal publications, for example in our LTS Newsletter. The School of Health and Community Studies also offers a video tour of their simulated operating rooms, or a collage of operating room pictures (complete with sims!).
Publications Coming Soon. Many thanks to Professor Tammy Miller for providing this update on current educational research projects associated with the sim lab. The reports from these projects will give us valuable information about the use of simulation in teaching practice. Stay tuned!
